PERSONALITY: Kakyoin is reserved in his dealings with others. This isn't to say that he's a perfectly mannered gentleman, just that he keeps to himself. Part of this is due to his self-imposed isolation, since he sees no reason to make friends since no one will understand him. This leads people to find him aloof, but that's not really true. He doesn't get noticed much and he doesn't mind.

When Kakyoin does choose to make friends, those that he finds respectable are the only ones being friends with. He doesn't tolerate a lot of crap from others and will make it known that he's not happy with the situation. He's very direct and to the point, but not rude about it. Those he considers friends are greatly valued by him and he will go out of his way for his friends.

He hates the idea of bowing down or sucking up to others, especially after his encounter in Egypt. The fact that he bowed down to someone else out of fear became something for him to overcome. He finds it distasteful in others, as well, and doesn't like people who do either of those things.

He resents those that try to deceive others and people that are two-faced. These are two qualities that can get you on his bad side very quickly. While he is usually a nice person, those that do him wrong are an exception. He can be very vengeful when he wants to be, but only if the person deserves it.

Refined. Hates bowing down or sucking up to others. Thinks only respectable people are worth being friends with. Straight to the point but nice about it. Doesn't get noticed much. Greatly values his friends. Resents people who are two-faced and try to deceive others.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Kakyoin is able to create and manipulate an emerald-like substance. It secretes a neurotoxin that he himself is immune to and its effects are not fatal, just immobilizing. He can stretch the substance into a thin, nearly invisible barrier, use it as projectiles, or use it to immobilize and control someone. He's hesitant to use his powers for anything but defense and refuses to use it to control another.

AU HISTORY: Kakyoin is the son of a well-known photographer and an artist. While his mutant powers caused some problems for them when he was still unable to control them, they still loved him just the same. He is a rarity in terms of mutants as his powers became evident from the time he was born. As he got older, he never told anyone about it because he knew it set him apart from his peers.

This self-imposed isolation caused some grief to his parents. In his attempt to blend in, he ended up hurting the people he cared about most. He never really forgave himself for that and it's a constant, nagging thought to him.

Summer vacations were spent abroad, traveling to many different countries. The one that affected him most, though, was a trip to Egypt where he had an encounter with a very powerful and very frightening person. He did things he's not proud of out of fear and forced loyalty. The fact that he gave into fear like that bothered him greatly and he still tries to overcome any fear he feels.

As he got older, it became more difficult for Kakyoin to continue separating himself from others. After he used his ability to defend himself, his parents decided it was better for him to go to a school better suited to handle individuals like himself. Kakyoin willingly went, of course, because perhaps being around other people like himself would allow him to make friends. He wanted a chance to make his parents happier.
